Nebulizing beyond CS: H2O2, GSH, Iodine & More

By Angie Mohr
This is for educational purposes only—use at your own risk, start low, consult a functional doctor if you have any concerns. This is not medical advice.
Use distilled water or properly made CS (distilled water base), and a clean nebulizer. Always dilute (except straight CS); and test tolerance with tiny amounts first.
I like CS as the base for most protocols (gentle + antimicrobial) and DMSO as the enhancer for deeper delivery.
Note: Many find adding a pinch of sea salt to CS makes it less harsh on lungs.

Do Nebulized Substances Reach the Bloodstream & Go Systemic?
Yes — absolutely.
- The lungs have a massive surface area (size of a tennis court) with thin alveolar walls and rich blood supply.
- Fine mist particles (1–5 microns from good nebulizers) deposit deep in alveoli → absorbed directly into pulmonary capillaries → straight to the bloodstream (bypasses liver first-pass metabolism for many compounds).
- Studies show nebulized glutathione, NAC, and even insulin reach systemic circulation fast (blood levels comparable to IV in some cases).
How far does it go?
- Whole body: Heart, brain, kidneys, liver, etc.
- Ears/nose/throat/sinuses: Even better with nasal nebulizing (mask or adapter). Eustachian tubes connect the middle ear to nasopharynx — nebulized antimicrobials (CS, H2O2) can reach middle ear infections that drops can’t touch.
- Brain: DMSO is famous for this — it crosses the blood-brain barrier easily when nebulized (nasal route enhances via olfactory nerves). Many use it for brain fog, inflammation, or neuro issues.
Examples of Systemic Reach
- Glutathione: Nebulized → systemic antioxidant boost (liver, brain, everywhere).
- NAC: Thins mucus locally + systemic detox (liver support).
- CS/H2O2: Local kill + some systemic antimicrobial effect.
- DMSO: The king of systemic — carries itself + companions (glutathione, iodine) everywhere, including the brain.
Nebulizing is the underrated systemic delivery method (cheaper/safer than IV for many).
Nebulized Vit C vs IV Vit C
- Almost as good — studies show nebulized Vit C reaches blood levels 70–90% of IV (bypasses gut, hits lungs → blood fast).
- Sometimes better for lung/sinus issues (direct contact + systemic).
- Cheaper, safer, no needles — you control dose, no vein damage.
Cathcart used it for patients who couldn’t tolerate more oral/IV.
Nebulized DMSO vs IV DMSO
- Close, but IV wins for speed/depth — IV is 100% bioavailability instant.
- Nebulized DMSO (especially nasal with 20% DMSO solution with mesh nebulizer) gets deep (brain, organs) fast — many report IV-like effects for inflammation/brain fog.
- Advantage: daily nebulizing is better than an occasional IV. Consistency beats intensity.
You can basically build a home IV clinic with a $50-$100 mesh nebulizer.
That’s revolutionary.💜✨

Hydrogen Peroxide (H2O2)

- Benefits for Lungs: Nebulizing H2O2 provides systemic bio-oxidative therapy by reaching the bloodstream through the lungs’ rich blood vessels. It oxidizes pathogens/toxins, boosts red blood cell oxygen release for better cellular energy, and improves immune function.
- Directly contacts sinuses, throat, bronchial tract, and lungs for colds, flu, Covid, sinusitis, bronchitis, sore throat, and more.
- Kills bacteria/viruses/fungi in airways, improves oxygenation, reduces inflammation, and clears mucus.
- Protocol
Dr. Jockers recommends this simple stock method (my favorite for consistency): - Dr. Jockers Stock Method (my favorite for consistency): Mix 8 oz saline (or CS—both work great) in a glass jar + 2 tsp 3% H2O2 (or ½ tsp 12% H2O2). Label & fridge (lasts weeks). Use 3–5 ml in neb cup, 5–10 min 1–2x/day.
- To make saline: Add ½ tsp natural sea salt to 8 oz distilled water or CS (stir until dissolved).
- Drop Method (quick sessions): Start with 3–5 drops 3% H2O2 in 3–5 ml CS/saline = 0.5% final (start here). Increase to 10 drops (1.5%) if tolerated.
Start low (3–5 min) for infections or maintenance; up to 10–15 min as needed. Some work up to as much as 20-30 drops per 5 ml neb cup, dose at your own discretion but always start slow. 10 drops is a safe and well supported dose by Dr. Jockers/Brownstein etc. - Nebulize 5–10 min 1–2x/day.
- (Why salt? Per Dr. Mercola, it prevents osmotic stress on lung cells. Many skip salt when using CS as base — but a pinch of salt can make it less harsh. Test what feels best for you.)

- (Why salt? Per Dr. Mercola, it prevents osmotic stress on lung cells. Many skip salt when using CS as base — but a pinch of salt can make it less harsh. Test what feels best for you.)
- Bonus synergy note
H2O2 (oxygen donor) boosts CS by increasing oxygen in tissues — bacteria/viruses die faster in oxygenated environments. Many feel stronger results combining them.
Risks/Safety Notes
- Irritation if too strong (dilute well, start very low).
- Caution or avoid if asthma/bronchitis flares easily.
- Test tolerance — stop if any burn. Take shorter inhales and more breaks if any cough, lungs sometimes need time to adjust. Listen to your body. Watch for Herxheimer reaction (flu-like symptoms from die-off — ease up).
- Special note for smokers or those with lung scarring/fibrosis or COPD:
Start with (or switch to) nebulized glutathione instead of H2O2. It repairs tissue and restores lung antioxidants without the risk of extra oxidative stress.
Glutathione (GSH)

- Benefits for Lungs: Antioxidant that repairs lung tissue, reduces oxidative stress, clears mucus, fights infections.
- Protocol: 300–600 mg reduced GSH in 3–5 ml saline; 10–15 min 1–2x/day. (Add pinch baking soda/NaHCO3 for stability)
- Risks/Safety Notes: Rare nausea; avoid if sulfur-sensitive.
The #1 Choice for Smokers & Damaged Lungs
(Why it’s gentler and often more effective than H2O2 for many)
- It directly repairs lung tissue and repairs oxidative damage from smoke/pollution
- Restores the master antioxidant that smoking depletes (most smokers are severely glutathione-deficient)
- Doesn’t create the oxidative “push” that H2O2 can sometimes trigger in already-damaged lungs.
- Reduces inflammation and scarring without adding extra oxidative stress
- Clears thick mucus and protects against further injury
Perfect for
- Current or ex-smokers
- COPD, emphysema, pulmonary fibrosis
- Anyone who coughs or feels irritation with H2O2

IODINE IMAGE
Iodine

- Benefits for Lungs: broad spectrum antiviral/antibacterial/antifungal for upper respiratory infections, clears pharynx pathogens and some parasites in the respiratory tract. Thins mucus, reduces inflammation, supports lung function. It’s been used for decades in natural health circles for lung/sinus infections, bronchitis, or chronic respiratory gunk. Inhaled iodine delivers it directly where needed, supporting thyroid function systemically while clearing infections locally.
- How it works: Iodine disrupts microbial proteins and enzymes on contact, with no resistance developing (unlike antibiotics). It also reduces inflammation in airways — many report faster clearance of congestion and fewer recurrent infections.
- Protocol
- Start very low — 1–2 drops Lugol’s 2% (or equivalent nascent) in 5–10 ml saline/CS.
- Neb 5–10 min, 1–2x/day max (short sessions — strong taste/irritation possible).
- Increase slowly if tolerated (up to 4–5 drops), but most stay low.
- Always dilute well — undiluted iodine can irritate lungs.
- Taste: Metallic/seaweed — some love it, some chase with water.
- Brownstein recommends adding H2O2 for synergy. Some other sources say don’t mix the two. Decide at your own discretion.
- Perfect add-on to CS or xylitol for tough respiratory bugs. Safe short-term; monitor thyroid long-term (rare suppression at low neb doses).
- Risks/Safety Notes: Irritation if too strong; caution if hyperthyroid.
Vitamin C

Benefits for Lungs Nebulized Vitamin C is a gentle powerhouse antioxidant — it reduces inflammation, fights viruses/bacteria, thins mucus, and supports immune cells right where you need them. Great for colds, flu, sinus issues, bronchitis, sore throat, RSV, whooping cough, or any lung irritation. It’s water-soluble, so your body uses what it needs and flushes the rest.
- Protocol
Use sodium ascorbate powder (non-acidic, gentler on lungs — ascorbic acid works too if tolerated).
Dissolve 1/4 tsp (1 g) sodium ascorbate in 1/4 cup (59 ml) saline, CS, or distilled water for a mild solution. Neb 10–20 min, 3–4x/day.
For experienced users or acute needs: Up to ½ tsp SA for shorter 5–10 min sessions (dilute more if cough/irritation).
If using ascorbic acid: You may buffer by adding 1/8 tsp baking soda (fizz = ready).
Many follow Cathcart’s idea: take oral Vit C to bowel tolerance first (the amount that loosens stools), then nebulize extra for deeper lung support without GI upset as a way to get maximum vitamin C dosage without diarrhea. But you don’t have to — nebulizing alone works fine for most.
Store mix in dark glass bottle in fridge (but freshly made daily is best).
My Tips
- If there is irritation, dilute more or shorten time.
- Pair with glutathione or NAC (alternate sessions) for extra lung repair.
Risks/Safety Notes
- Rare mild cough if too concentrated — dilute and slow down.
- Avoid high doses if history of oxalate kidney stones (monitor with doc).
Credits & Inspiration
This combines Cathcart’s bowel tolerance concept with protocols shared in the Vitamin C molecular medicine community.
DMSO

- Benefits for Lungs: Anti-inflammatory, improves oxygen delivery, thins mucus, enhances other actives.
- Caution: If using an electric nebulizer there is always concern about the soft plastic tubing. A mesh nebulizer is recommended for higher than 10% DMSO solutions.
- Protocol: Dilute to 1–5% for most electric nebulizers (e.g., 0.3–1.5 ml 99% DMSO + 4.7 ml salinie/CS = 5 ml at 5%). Nebulize 5–10 min 1x/day.
Synergy: Mix with glutathione for deeper detox or iodine for antiviral boost — DMSO acts as a carrier, improving absorption.. Use CS as base for antimicrobial benefits.
Amandha Vollmer’s View: Recommends starting with pure DMSO (10–20% solution and never more than 50%) to raise baseline glutathione levels, then spacing sulfur-based actives like glutathione/NAC 15–30 min later. She says DMSO already raises glutathione, as does NAC, so you will absorb and utilize more of it by not mixing them all at once. (from Healing with DMSO). For 20% solutions, use a mesh handheld nebulizer (e.g., MedPro, check my links) to avoid plastic leaching from soft plastic tubing on plug in units.
If using CS as base, add a pinch of sea salt for gentleness (many find it less harsh on lungs). - Risks/Safety Notes: When using an electric nebulizer, it is advised to use low concentrations (diluted to 1% or no more than 5%) to avoid plastic leaching from soft tubing.Concentrations below 15–20% typically don’t leach plastic from the tubes). Test tolerance — stop if coughing/burning. Avoid if kidney/liver issues.
NAC (N-Acetyl Cysteine)

- Benefits for Lungs: Breaks thick, stubborn mucus like nothing else. Protects the lungs from damage. It’s especially helpful for chronic bronchitis, COPD, sinus congestion, or any condition with sticky phlegm that won’t budge. Many notice easier breathing, less coughing, and faster recovery from respiratory bugs. It also boosts the body’s master antioxidant (glutathione), supporting detox, reducing inflammation, and protecting cells from oxidative stress — benefits that reach beyond the lungs.
- How it Works
- NAC breaks disulfide bonds in mucus proteins, turning thick gunk into thin, easy-to-clear fluid (mucolytic magic). Delivered directly via nebulizer, it works fast on airways without relying on digestion. It neutralizes toxins, calms inflammation, and repairs damage.
- Protocol: 300–600 mg NAC in 3–5 ml saline; 10 min 1–2x/day or more at your own discretion.
- Risks/Safety Notes: Mild nausea; avoid if asthma flares.
XYLITOL IMAGE
Xylitol
- Benefits for Lungs: Xylitol isn’t just a sweetener — it’s a natural powerhouse for clearing sinuses and airways. This sugar alcohol (from birch is recommended, not corn) starves bad bacteria of food, thins thick mucus, and disrupts biofilms (those sticky bacterial “forts” that make infections chronic and hard to clear). It’s especially great for chronic sinusitis, post-nasal drip, or upper respiratory gunk.
- How it works: Xylitol creates a hypertonic environment that pulls water into airways (osmotic effect), loosening mucus for easier clearance. It also inhibits bacteria like Strep and Staph from sticking to tissues — no resistance develops like with antibiotics..
- Protocol:
Mix ½–1 tsp xylitol (food-grade) in 50 ml saline/CS for a gentle 5–10% solution.
Neb 5–10 ml per session (5–10 min, 2–3x/day).
Start with 5% (½ tsp) — too strong can sting at first
Combine with CS or HA for extra biofilm busting. Safe daily — kids love the sweetness too (dilute more for them).
Risks/Safety Notes: Mild cough if too thick; dissolve fully. - Taste: Mild sweet, no burn like some antimicrobials.

Angie – I recently had a calcium CT scan. My calcium score is 0 but they did note that I have one 3mm lung nodule and one 2mm lung nodule. I have no tobacco use, symptoms, etc. Could nebulizing CS help? I thought I would try. Your thoughts?
That spiffy ultra sonic mesh nebulizer is not allowed in the US for some reason known only to drunk monkeys? The guide is very though and in depth, Thank You!
Hey Angie,
I have an electric nebulizer, but wanted to buy a mesh one, but the link you posted does not work. I live in the states and wanted to buy a quality mesh nebulizer from Amazon. One link to Amazon works but it is Amazon Canada , but live in the states.
I read this guide several times. I have been nebulizing with CS, and glutathione , but decided to try the sodium ascorbate for the first time. Definitely a game changer .
For the glutathione capsules: is the one you added the link for also able to be taken orally. As much as I would like my asthmatic husband to try nebulizing, he is so skiddish about nebulizing alternative things. He’s slowly (very slowly) coming to accept some natural things, but I can’t get him to try this unless he takes it orally. So just wanted to make sure this formulation is for oral use as well. I can’t tell from the pictures provided on the bottle.
Never mind. I found it on the page in the FAQs
Thank-you so much Angie for creating this for us all and posting the full version here. Happy New Year and best wishes from the UK X
fantastic info in one place. thanks so much!
This is such a helpful article. My brother-in-law has a fungus on his lungs, he’s also a smoker. The doctors put him on a drug that just basically damaged his stomach and didn’t shrink the fungus. I was telling my sister about nebulizing CS, iodine and H202. Is there another protocol that might work better for the fungus?
Thank you this is awesome
Thank you, I’m glad you enjoyed it!
